Glenn Mangold Named New NBHS Head Football Coach

NBISD Story Link

Welcome Coach Mangold!
Welcome Coach Mangold!

Randy Moczygemba, the superintendent for New Braunfels Independent School District (NBISD), is pleased to announce that Glenn Mangold has accepted the position of Head Football Coach for New Braunfels High School. Mangold has more than 20 years of coaching experience at both the high school and college level. His official start date with New Braunfels is Feb. 24.

“Coach Mangold has the talent and experience to build a stellar football program at NBISD from the middle school level all the way through high school,” said Superintendent Moczygemba.

Mangold will lead the Unicorn football coaching staff after serving the past six years as the assistant head coach and offensive coordinator for James Madison High School. His tenure at Madison resulted in 54 wins in six seasons, with an average of more than 30 points per game and an average of 425 yards per game. Those wining seasons earned the team six consecutive playoff berths including five bi-district finals, three quarterfinals and two semi-final appearances. Additionally, more than 20 of the athletes in the Madison program have received college scholarships.

During his career, he held the same position as Assistant Head Coach and Offensive Coordinator at Converse Judson from 2005-2008 and Medina Valley High School in Castroville from 2000-2001. He has also worked as an offensive line coach twice before at Madison High School from 2001-2005 and from 1992-2000. He began his coaching career in 1990 as the assistant offensive line coach for two years at the University of Iowa in Iowa City, Iowa.

A Texas native, Mangold earned his master’s degree in Exercise Science at the University of Iowa and his undergraduate degree in Education from Southwest Texas State (SWT), now known as Texas State University in San Marcos. He is no stranger to New Braunfels High School after completing his student teaching there in the spring of 1990.

His love for football comes from nine years on the field at Southwest Texas State and Medina Valley High School. At SWT, he was named team captain and Most Valuable Player in 1989 and a member of the SWT 1980s All-Decade Team. As part of the Medina Valley football program, he was named All-State Offensive Center and was part of the 1984 3A State Championship Team.
