The UIL Cross Country season might be in the books, but the Unicorns Cross Country girls are still turning heads across the state – and the rest of the country. This weekend, the UXC girls ran in the cold and rain to compete with the best cross country teams in the 5 state south region of the Nike National Championship series. Once again Paige Hofstad won the overall title and is getting national recognition. She has to be considered among one of the best runners in the nation. Morgan Szekely came in at number 7 overall.
As a team, the Unicorn girls easily won the 5 state region and have been invited by Nike to participate in the NXN (Nike Cross Nationals) in Oregon two weeks from now. There, they will measure themselves against the best in the U.S. as one of the top 22 teams in the nation.
Jozie Lowe officially signed a National Letter of Intent to Swim for the Division 1 University of the Incarnate Word Cardinals in San Antonio Texas. After starting swimming just 4 years ago, and with the awesome Coaching from Coach Doug Konomos, she was able to sign a swimming scholarship to a Division 1 University. The team this year is already on a roll to have the best year ever. So far there have been 21 NB swimming records set this year, and of those, Jozie has 7 individual records and is part of 3 relay records. Her current goal is win District, go to Regional and qualify for the State meet to be held at UT in February. She is very excited to attend UIW in the fall of 2013.

The UXC girls finished with the lowest overall time and lowest average time per runner than any other team in the state, however, they ended up 6 points behind the state champion Southlake Carroll Dragons. What an amazing end to a special XC season!
